11 Reasons to Elope | Rainy Evansville, Indiana Courthouse Elopement

I loved having the privilege of taking Cody and Shanelle’s wedding photos. They eloped on a rainy day in August, but they weren’t afraid of a little rain and I brought along my rain jacket to keep my gear from getting wet. We took photos inside the courthouse and around downtown Evansville. It’s such a cute little town, especially for photos!

I wrote down some reasons to elope, in case you’re considering it and on the fence.

  1. It’s laid back & chill. If you’re a low-key, last-minute type of person — eloping might just be for you.

  2. If it rains it’s not a big deal. Just grab an umbrella or embrace getting wet. You won’t have to worry about guests getting soaked, cause there won’t be any guests there. (:

  3. You can elope wherever you’d like. The mountains, your dream location, a place that you two like to go hiking, the courthouse in a charming downtown or your backyard. The options are endless!

  4. Eloping (most of the time) costs less than having a wedding. Especially less than having a big wedding.

  5. You can spend the day doing things you love with the one you love.

  6. It’s romantic.

  7. If you don’t like a lot of attention (that’s me) or small talk it’s perfect. I can guarantee that if you have a wedding, there will be lots of small talk and lots of attention. If you’re not into that, eloping might be for you!

  8. If you don’t like big groups or crowds of people or they make you anxious, eloping might be for you.

  9. Since eloping is a more simple occasion that having a big event, you can focus on your love for each other and not get as caught up in the details and logistics.

  10. You can spend more money on the things that matter to you and less on the wedding. Maybe a honeymoon matters most to you, a dream photographer, or a downpayment on a house.

  11. Did I mention it’s romantic?

Last thing before the photos: A myth about eloping is that it has to be a secret. For most of the elopements I’ve photographed, the couple has told their closest friends and family. So it doesn’t have to be a “running away and make my entire family angry” kind of vibe! A good idea is to celebrate with your family/chosen family/friends after you get back from eloping. You can celebrate with them individually over dinner or throw a little party with everybody afterwards. Or just skip it and elope.

Enjoy the photos! If anybody needs a Louisville elopement photographer (or closeby), send me an email! hello@kendrafarrisphotography.com

I wanted to add that Sandra Krieg of Sandra Leigh Lynn Florals did the flowers and I think she did a wonderful job!
