Kacey Musgrave Photoshoot - Inspired by the album "Deeper Well"
Occasionally, an artist will release an album that inspires me to do a themed photo shoot. While music has always been a big inspiration to me, it’s pretty rare that that I will have an album inspire me to do whole themed photo shoot. The only other time I that this happened has been when Taylor Swift released folklore. I felt the itch to take photos in the way that the music made me feel. I’ve blogged that photo shoot too. My friend Hannah Ours, who modeled for this shoot modeled for that shoot as well. If you want to check it out here’s the link.
I felt inspired by Kacey Musgraves new album, Deeper Well. Especially by her promo photos for album. The photo shoot looks like it was done by Kelly Christine Photo, (who I think is Kacey’s sister). I really like her work. It seems as if the photo shoot was photographed on a mixture of film and digital. I did for this photo shoot, too.
This photoshoot gives me reminds me of spring days when spring is at its fullest. Everything is bright green and the birds are loud. I love the country-farm feel, too, and that’s why I picked Blackacre Park as a location for the photos. I was there for another photoshoot and thought, “This is where I have to do the Kacey Musgraves shoot!”
It reminds me of the busyness of life that seems to burst for after winter. It can hold a mixture of feelings for me, personally. I adore the life that rushes through my bones after long, dead winter. Sometimes ... I don’t even realize that I was feeling depressed, not until the birds start to chirp louder, the sun shines longer and color appears.
At the same time can bring a bit of anxiety for me. The pressure to get things done to jump into the next thing, the busy-busy of spring can feel a little bit chaotic. Especially after the slow hibernation of winter. As a photographer, this comes firsthand as I don’t take as many photos in the winter. Spring hits around here in Louisville, Kentucky & everybody’s looking to schedule photos.
This photo shoot itself reminds me to take a breath and pause. It reminds me to enjoy the fullness of life. You can take a minute from chores or rushing to enjoy nature in her fullness. The song “Sway” from Kacey’s album is the one that sticks out to me. (I’m also a big fan of “The Architect”, but that’s for another post.)
Hope you enjoyed the photos. ♥ Thank you to Kacey Musgraves for the music inspiration, Kelly Christine for the photo inspiration, and Hannah Ours for modeling. Film shot on medium format, Portra 400 and scanned by State Film Lab here in Louisville, Kentucky.
