A morning in the life | Candid Family Photography in Louisville, Kentucky

When Kate, a client turned friend, reached out to me with an idea to photograph a morning of her day, I was ecstatic to say the least. She’s a stay-at-home mom and wanted to have this busy season of life with her littles captured. These kinds of photos are the ones that mean more & more, the more time passes. The baby grows into a toddler, the toddler a kid — it’s bittersweet to photograph it happening and I can’t even imagine the feelings of having a front-row seat as a parent.

The girls started the morning with pancakes and goodbyes to dad. A walk through their Old Louisville neighborhood to Central Park’s playground, took polaroids together, jumped on the trampoline, had nap times and all messy, fun, happy & sad moment in between.

Kate is a champ — moms are really super-heroes. I applaud her too for allowing herself and her kiddos to show up real . . . this was no curated, instagram-y photoshoot and I’m so here for it. I think the real shit is what you’re going to be glad you have when you look back. (It’s funnier, too.) Kate told me she almost did her hair and makeup when I showed up but decided not to, kudos to her.

I also had to hold myself back from curating photos or even helping out. I did feel slightly bad for not helping Kate get the kids out the door or stopping the toddler from breaking the lamp lol, but I wanted to be in on this morning in the life as hands-off as I could be.

Besides that though, this way of photographing came naturally and easily to me. It felt like seeing an old friend or coming home. I would be so happy to be able to do more of these morning in the life photoshoots and actually now offer it as a photoshoot option.
